Professional DevelopmentThe Introduction to Expressive Arts Course and Workshops are designed to help professionals expand their working skills to include the principles and practice of expressive arts. This course and workshops can be taken for personal as well as professional development.
"The foundations of EXA course provided me with a comprehensive introduction to both the theory and experiential practice of expressive arts therapy. I regularly use techniques I learned in the course, such as "harvesting", in my private practice work with clients. I learned about concepts such as "expanding one's range of play" or "decentering through art-making" which had been overlooked in my traditional psychotherapy training program."

Introduction to Expressive Arts Course
Description
The Introduction to Expressive Arts Course is a 3-hour weekly class, running for sixteen-weeks, designed to help professionals expand their working skills to include the principles and practice of expressive arts. This course can be taken for personal as well as professional development.
The course will teach the basic principles and practice drawn from core literature in the field of intermodal expressive arts as used in therapy, coaching, education and social change. Because CREATE Institute emphasizes experiential learning, students are encouraged to explore how different dimensions of artistic action can connect to their own work and life.
A reading package will be provided.
The Introduction to Expressive Arts Course is also designed to help students develop their own creative potential by encouraging them to engage in an ongoing artistic practice. Students will be asked to complete 50 hours of studio time during the course and to present in class the work they’ve been doing in their studio.
After finishing all course requirements, students will receive a Certificate of Completion in The Introduction to Expressive Arts Course.

"I loved my time in Foundations at CREATE. It was energizing, fun, and I met lots of interesting people. It also let me explore lots of different art modalities, and see which I was most drawn to. It also introduced me to a variety of teachers, and to find my way into further art explorations. I'm really glad I did it."
