Melanie Nesbitt, RP
Registered Psychotherapist, Dance Movement Therapist/ Expressive Arts Therapist; Supervisor; Workshop Facilitator; Teacher
The Create Institute, Adjunct faculty - 3YR Program
Over 30 years experience as a dance movement therapist and intermodal expressive arts therapist and 20 years’ experience as a supervisor

Description:  Originally trained as a dance movement therapist, my approach in my psychotherapy and supervision practice is movement based expressive arts therapy.  Individuals and groups may begin by talking and within a nonjudgmental and supportive setting are encouraged to explore their emotional, physical and spiritual responses to issues through the arts.

Informed by the unfolding process of creating and working with their imagination, new experiences, insights and directions may occur to address chronic and complex problems such as: depression; stress, anxiety, trauma, grief, loss, sexuality, relationships , health concerns, life transitions, parenting and family changes.

As a supervisor for students and practitioners in the helping professions, my work provides an appreciation for the important connections between clinical work, reflective practice and the rich opportunities found in the arts.  Presenting at international conferences, offering training workshops, and teaching as an Adjunct Faculty member at The Create Institute, these experiences continue to impact my personal growth. The mutually influencing discussions with participants deepen my passion and commitment to my arts based psychotherapy practice.
