Who we are: The CREATE Institute is a three-year training program in Expressive Arts Therapy. Since 1991, CREATE has been training students in downtown Toronto. CREATE is recognized by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. The CREATE program is designed to immerse students in an intensive, arts-based educational process benefiting their clinical and professional development, as well as their personal and creative growth. The in-class curriculum includes theoretical, experiential, and practical training.

You are a graduate of The CREATE Institute, or an equivalent training program.

You have superior skills in the areas of verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, and critical thinking.
You have an ability to respond and adapt to change while using your problem-solving/conflict resolution skills to appropriately and effectively support each student’s unique needs, and the integrity of the class.
Assets include: experience as a Teaching Assistant or facilitator in post-secondary education; clinical experience as an EXA therapist; advanced academic standing in the field of EXAT.
What you will be doing:
Contribute to an effective and inclusive learning environment for all students, respecting their diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.
Support students in understanding course objectives, attendance expectations, EXAT approaches, evaluation techniques and deadlines.
Assist with various administrative tasks in class, including oversight of the Attendance Sheet; the Centre Set-Up Sign-Up Sheet; the Land Acknowledgement & ABSA Sign-up Sheet; and liaising with students as-needed (e.g. if students are late to class).
Assist as-needed in preparing and delivering lesson plans. This may include leading Centre Set-Up and Land Acknowledgements & ABSAs. This will include familiarity with weekly readings; facilitating discussions and group activities; and debriefing with the instructor after class.
Act as a liaison between students and the instructor, as-needed (e.g., hearing students’ concerns or complaints, and responding appropriately.
Assist in set-up & clean-up* before and after each class, as well as general oversight of the Studio space and supplies. *Clean-up at the CREATE Studio includes but is not limited to: light tidying and sweeping; maintaining the water cooler; management of recycling and waste after class.
Note: These are general Teaching Assistants guidelines; each faculty member may assign duties that are specific to their class and teaching style.
Compensation:
Teaching Assistants will receive an honorarium
TA hours can also be applied as Arts-Based hours toward graduation requirements
