10.  INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS


All Policies and Procedures outlined on this handbook are applicable to international students.

Documentation Requirements: All international students are required to submit the following documents before the beginning of classes:
  1.) Official Study Permit: International student must present a valid study permit issued. The study permit should be valid for the duration of the intended academic program.
  2.) Proof of Health Insurance: Health and medical insurance coverage is mandatory for all international students. Students must provide and comprehensive health insurance. The insurance coverage should be maintained throughout the entire duration of program.
  3.) Valid Passport: International students must have a valid passport from their home country. The passport should be valid for the entire duration of the program.
  4.) Signed International Student Consent Form: All international students are required to sign the ISP Student Consent Form.

During regular school terms/semesters- You can work up to 20 hours per week. You can work more than 1 job to make up these hours as long as you continue to meet the conditions of your study permit.

During scheduled breaks in the school year- You can work full-time if you’re on a scheduled break, such as winter and summer holidays or reading week.

Get a Social Insurance Number to work in Canada - A SIN is a 9 digit number that the Government of Canada gives you. You need one to work in Canada.

To apply for a SIN to work off campus, you must have 1 of these conditions printed on your study permit:
  • May work 20 hours per week off campus or full-time during regular breaks if meeting criteria outlined in paragraph 186(v) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.
  • May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria, per paragraph R186(f), (v) or (w) and must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria.

If your study permit does not have work conditions on it. You can ask to have these conditions added if you’re eligible to work off campus. You’ll need to request an amendment to your study permit before you can apply for a SIN from Service Canada.

CREATE Institute ISP graduates are not eligible to apply for a Post- Graduation Permit.
