Lee Shields
Registered Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor

Lee’s focus is within a frame that is relational and arts based.  This is a somatic, client centred, trauma-informed approach within an anti-oppressive framework.  Lee has done training and does teach a course focusing on trauma and EXA.  Lee’s concept of trauma does include family - relational trauma and/or war related cultural violence.  For over 15 years Lee has worked with couples.  Here she uses play and imagination to support conflict and communication issues.   Also, Lee is a cisgender queer-identified, able-bodied woman, who holds a sensitivity to the complexity of diversity.  Always holding in mind, positions and lived experience of her supervises and the clients.

Lee comes to the role of supervisor with over 25 years experience as an Expressive Arts Therapist, RP and  relational psychotherapist, TIRP graduate.   She did supervision training for one year, at TIRP, nd has had a private practice in Toronto for over 25 years.  Also,  Lee worked as an EXAT for 19 years at Lumenus Community Services, where she developed an EXA program.  This program included group and individual EXA psychotherapy with youth and families.  At Lumenus, she worked with clients who had complex trauma and addiction issues.  In January 2025, Lee started working at Redbird Therapy as an RP and clinical supervisor.

Lee prioritizes trust and listening.  She works within a frame of  co-creating.   With a background in relational psychotherapy and arts based psychotherapy, She is curious and motivated by the process of not knowing what will happen next.  As you speak about your client work, she pays attention to the client’s past, bringing to light how their life experiences and learned ways of coping may be repeated in the present – at times, without awareness.
Through empathy, we navigate your client challenges, strengths, and your professional goals.

Focus areas: 2SLGBT community, trauma, substance use, depression, and neurodiversity. Lee works relationally and will integrative play, imagination and art making to support your clients in finding their resources.
Lee has been  a core faculty member at The CREATE Institute, for over 23 years.  She co-directs the Create Clinic, where she supervises.  Over the last 20 years, painting is one of the ways she cares of  herself .  She loves to process difficult concerns through her art-making practice.
