Shara Magdalene Claire
Registered Psychotherapist

My online private practice is geared toward adults and youth. My hours are 10 am - 8 pm EST, Mondays and Tuesdays. My sessions run one full hour, not 50 minutes. I offer a full-length complimentary consult so that we can both determine whether we are a good fit. Expressive arts therapy was my first major training, and it deeply informs my work with clients. In recent years I have become interested in different models of therapy, such as somatic experiencing, relational psychotherapy, and transpersonal psychotherapy. While I have not completed formal trainings in these methods, I have studied them and worked closely with colleagues who practice them. My current clinical supervisor is a senior relational therapist. I believe the relationship between client and therapist is paramount. I also have a strong attachment lens which informs my practice. I have nearly completed Level 2 Theraplay, a model of attachment-based therapy for children and youth, helping them reconnect more safely with their caregivers. My 25 years of experience with a variety of spiritual practices also informs and gives life to my therapy practice. I am a cis, queer, white woman, a feminist, and interested in intersectional feminism as well as ancestral and collective trauma. You can read more about my practice and areas of expertise here:  https://tinyurl.com/yan47pbu

EXAT Diploma, The Create Institute 2005

Additional Training:
Masters in Expressive Arts Therapy from EGS, Switzerland / Certified Counsellor from CTI, Victoria, BC

Professional Affiliations: CRPO, OEATA

Areas of expertise & experience:
Existential inquiry, trauma (of all sorts), anxiety, disordered eating, relational struggles, boundaries, meditation/spiritual practice

Arts practice: My arts practice is interdisciplinary, and my main areas of interest and work are in music/song, creative writing, and theatre. However, as a graduate of CREATE and of EGS, I am very comfortable working with clients in all artistic modalities and have worked to find ways to use them effectively in an online practice. I also include the contemplative arts in my arts practice. My graduate thesis was titled  “The Hermitage As Studio: How Devotional Song Can Crystallize Solitary Spiritual Work Into Creative Community Work.”
